This is above the entrance to our Tea Rooms. A lot of history here. The Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds is nowadays known as the Shepherds Friendly Society offering mortgages and savings accounts!! Wonder if they'll give me a mortgage!!!!

I have two Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds sashes belonging to my great great grandfather, John Smith, who was a 'Past Master' and one of the founding members of the Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds at Lealholm. John was a local stone mason and it was his son, Frankland Smith, who built the Shepherd Hall - that's all I know. I would love any more information if anyone has any!
